[xcat-user] Vm doesnt turn on

Hi Team,
I have made a shell script to automate the number of vm I can spin up. I have a weird issue, say Increate 2 vms, when I do "rpower vm1 on" it doesnt turn on at all, whereas "rpower vm2 on" does turn on. The same happens if I create 3 vms, except the last one, rest none of them turn on.
What could be the issue ?

Siddharth,

1. Do you see any errors when you issue "rpower vm1 on" ? Anything
interesting in /var/log/xcat/computes.log or /var/log/xcat/cluster.log ?
2. Have you tried "rpower vm1 boot" instead of "rpower vm1 on" ?
3. Is the failure consistent ? If you issue "rpower vm1 on" second time,
does it fail again ?
4. Are you creating diskless or diskfull VMs ?

Hi Mark,
No errors, I have tried boot and same thing, tried multiple times same issue. Nothing in particular visible in logs, these are diskfull VMs.

Siddharth,

1. If no errors from "rpower" command, how can you tell that it does not
turn on ?
2. For the failing VM, can you see "status" attribute of the node object
progress through "powering-on", "installing", "booting" states ?
3. Is it possible the hypervisor host running out of memory, disk or other
resources ?

Thanks Mark,
I see thag when I turn it on using rpower, it just says off, when I go to he host and virsh list it doesnt show anything running. When Insee status attribute using nodestat it cannot get the status, similarly when I use status in rpower its off.
Interestingly enough, instead of running it through the script if I create each VM individually they all work fine.

Siddharth,

Does your script go through steps of creating a VM from scratch (mkdef ->
mkvm -> nodeset -> rpower) for each VM ?
Have you tried putting a 1 second sleep between each step of creation, or
between each VM poweron ?
